Tea Time Etiquette

Make sure that you always say “Please” and “Thank You” when being served or if you need anything passed to you on the table.

Dress smart-casual if you have any doubt about attire.

If you have a purse, place it on your lap after you sit down.

Make sure you don’t serve yourself until all of the guests are served and the hostess sits down.

Always place your tea bag on the saucer to the right of your spoon.

Never place the spoon in your mouth. It is only used to stir with.

Take bite size bites at all times.

Don’t ever place the entire sandwich in your mouth even if it is a small sandwich.

Never put your pinky up in the air. This is not appropriate to do.

If you have a cell phone, never place it on the table. Leave it in your purse.

If you don’t like something on your plate, say nothing and just eat the other treats.

Always mind your manners and be courteous and polite.

Say, “Excuse me!” when you need to go to the restroom during tea.

Never reach over to serve yourself. This is considered very rude.

Tuck your chair in when you leave unless the wait staff helps and does it for you as you leave.

Never blow on your tea. Let it “sit” if it is too hot to drink.
